GLADSTONE---Nolan Bink threw four touchdown passes and the Escanaba Eskymos broke a three-year losing streak against the arch-rival Gladstone Braves, 50-7, Friday night at the Marble Athletic Field. The Eskymo defense forced four turnovers against the depleted Gladstone offense which was ravaged by injuries and inexperience all season.

Escanaba earned its first winning season in several years, although its 5-4 record will likely not be good enough for a state playoff spot when the field of 256 is announced on Sunday. Gladstone, which had made the playoffs four straight years, finished 1-8.

Bink was outstanding throwing the ball against a Gladstone defense that rarely pressured him. Bink, a junior, completed 14 of his 16 passes for 182 yards and those four scores.

And he spread it around, throwing TD passes to four different receivers. His touchdown passes went to Alex Stalboerger (45 yards), Graham Johnson (12 yards), Gavin Wagner (five yards), Ashton Rymkos (six yards), and and Adam Prey (three yards).

Johnson also had a touchdown pass to Javon Stevenson (17 yards) to go along with his TD reception, four extra point kicks, and two-point conversion pass.

Brody Ison ran for 51 yards on 12 carries, including a one-yard touchdown that put the Eskymos up early.

Gladstone's only touchdown came on a 12-yard pass from Austin Pepin to Nehnemiah Blair on the last play of the second quarter. By then, the Eskymos already led, 36-0.

The rivalry game got increasingly testy as the night went on, with multiple personal foul penalties being called on both sides.

At one point in the third quarter, with things close to reaching the boiling point, head referee Greg Rubick called both head coaches to the middle of the field for a conference. Rubick then instructed both coaches to have words with their entire teams, and they both huddled up on opposite sides of the field.

The game started well for Gladstone when kicker Luke Inghram executed an on-side kick on the opening kickoff.

But one play later, Gladstone's momentum died when Keagan Braun intercepted Pepin's pass and took it into the red zone, setting up Ison's short touchdown run.

Then not to be outdone, Johnson executed an on-side kick of his own for the Eskymos, and although the Braves stopped the Eskymos in that series, the tone was set.

Stevenson had an interception for Escanaba in the second quarter that he brought back all the way for a pick-six touchdown. But an illegal block wiped Stevenson's points off of the board, and the Eskymos had to drive 40 yards, which they did in two minutes.

Bink had 82 rushing yards (on 11 carries) to go along with his 182 passing yards.

Ketchum led the Braves offense with 82 rushing yards on 16 carries. Pepin completed just three of 12 passes for 27 yards, and three interceptions.

Escanaba rolled up 381 yards of total offense, with Kaleb Gagne contributing 64 rushing yards on ten carries. Gladstone managed just 128 yards of total offense.
