Houghton Outlasts Marquette To Win 'Rock' Invite

GLADSTONE----The Houghton Gremlins and Marquette Redettes battled for three games on Saturday in the championship match of The Rock Invitational in Gladstone.

The two teams had met earlier in the day in pool play, with Houghton winning both games (25-21, 25-18). Both advanced out of their five-team pool into the Final Four.

But in the championship match, Marquette came out strong and put the Gremlins on the ropes, 26-24. Houghton dominated the next game, 25-12, to force a third and deciding game. The Gremlins won the third game, 25-21, to win the trophy.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Houghton beat Escanaba and Marquette topped Gwinn.
