Kingsford Wins; Marquette Falls At Ice Showcase

CHELSEA, Mich.---The Kingsford High School hockey team won its opener at the Michigan Public High School Hockey Showcase on Friday.

The Flivvers topped the Saline Hornets, 6-3, as Reid Pietila scored three goals. Kingsford played Saline after their original opponent, Howell, did not make the trip to Chelsea because of bad weather that forced numerous schools to close in the Detroit area.

Kingsford plays its second game at the Showcase Saturday at 12:15 against Lakeland.

Meanwhile, Marquette lost to Farmington, 5-3, Thursday night in Chelsea. The Redmen got goals from McKinley Larson, Alex Zerbel, and Forest Folker in the losing effort.

On Friday, Marquette lost to Farmington Unified, 4-3, in the MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase on Friday in the Detroit suburb of Trenton. Calumet lost to Trenton, 3-2, at that same tournament. And Sault Ste. Marie fell to Toronto Hill Academy, 3-0.
