Gladstone Girls Win Reed City Softball Invitational

REED CITY---The Gladstone High School softball team improved to 10-1 on the season after winning the Reed City Invitational Saturday in Lower Michigan.

The girls beat Cadillac in the tournament opener, 9-2, as Tinner Sharon tossed a three-hitter, striking out eleven batters. Then Gladstone blanked Benzie Central, 11-0, with Mikayla Depuydt allowing only one hit and fanning six. And in the championship game, Gladstone beat Reed City, 11-0, with Allison Austin throwing a two-hitter.

"It was a nice weekend," Gladstone Braves Coach Jerry Smith said. "In that last game, we played really well, hit the ball better, and things started to gel."

Against Cadillac, Jess Beaudry and Grace Zimmerman each had two base hits. Austin had two hits against Benzie Central, then Zimmerman had two hits again against Reed City.

"All three of our pitchers did a nice job," Smith said. "They really pitched well."

On Friday, the Braves beat the Traverse City St. Francis Gladiators, 12-0 and 5-1. The Braves used Sharon, Austin, and Depuydt to pitch throughout both games.

"They played good," Smith said. "We didn't hit the ball in the second game, though. Not good."
