Marquette's Newest Hockey Team Holds Tryouts

MARQUETTE----There's a new hockey team in the Upper Peninsula.

The Marquette Royales are the newest member of the Minnesota Junior Hockey League, which includes teams not only from Minnesota, but six other states. It is a USA Hockey sanctioned Tier III hockey league with 17 teams altogether.

The league is made up of young men aged 17 to 20 who are looking to play college hockey down the road. The Marquette team will play home games at Lakeview Arena.

This weekend, the community can get their first look at the Royales as the club holds its first Main Tryout Camp. About 30 players....some signed, some not signed...will be there to try to either learn, or solidify, a spot on the 2013-14 roster.

The camp will be held at the Barry Events Center on the Northern Michigan University campus. The first session is from 6:00 until 8:00 Saturday night.

The second session is from 8:00 until 9:30 Sunday morning. And the final session is Sunday afternoon from 1:30 until 3:00. Read more at www.marquetteroyales.com.
