HANNAHVILLE---The Mackinac Island Lakers won two games in Hannahville Friday night as the Northern Lights Conference season continued.
The Lakers won the girls game, 49-29, then they came from behind to stun the Soaring Eagles in the boys game, 47-45.
GIRLS GAME: Hannahville trailed just 23-17 at halftime, and closed to within four points twice in the third quarter.
But Mackinac Island pulled away late in the third quarter to lead, 36-23, and then the Lakers rolled in the fourth quarter to win by 20.
Halee Tokarz led Mackinac Island with 23 points, with nine of those points coming in the fourth quarter. Hailey Armstrong added 11 points and Mary Schockling added eight.
Hannahville got ten points each from Sophie Manitowabi and Selena Williams.
BOYS GAME: Hannahville got off to a great start, taking leads of 8-0 and 14-5 thanks to strong three-point shooting. Justin Larson, Trace Sagataw, and Tallen Boda all hit three's to put the Soaring Eagles in front.
It was 14-7 after one quarter, and 20-12 at the half.
But Hannahville could not put two halves of basketball together.
The Lakers chipped away at their deficit, and pulled it out at the end to win by two. Eagles Coach Seth Miller blamed the loss on far too many turnovers, noting that the Lakers routinely scored in transition.
Mackinac Island's Will Barnwell scored 24 points to lead all scorers. Jeremy Hepker added twelve points. Hannahville got 22 points from Justin Larson while Cody Meshigaud added 15 points.
The two teams will play again Saturday morning in Hannahville.
