RAPID RIVER---The Superior Central High School girls basketball team won its third straight district championship Friday night, turning back the Big Bay deNoc Black Bears, 60-31, in Rapid River.
The Cougars jumped to a 23-6 lead heading into the second quarter, and led, 35-13, at halftime.
Teslyn Tyner led Superior Central with 23 points. Vanessa Freberg added 15 points and Brooke Pasanen chipped in ten points for the Cougars. Sam Sundling scored twelve points to lead Big Bay de Noc, which finished 5-18 on the season. Superior Central (20-2) faces Stephenson in the regionals on Tuesday.
