Rapid River Softball Wins Three At Eskymo Invite

ESCANABA---The Rapid River High School girls softball team had a successful day on Saturday at the Eskymo Softball Challenge in Escanaba. The Rockets won two of three games, including a stunning 6-1 upset over the third-ranked Eskymos.

The Escanaba-Rapid River game was played in the morning, with temperatures in the 30's and a scattered snow flurries.

It was a 0-0 tie until the fourth inning, when the Rockets broke through with a run. The Rockets then put on a stunning five-run, bat-around inning in the fifth and then cruised to the win against a team that mercied them two weeks ago.

Rapid River's final game of the day was a 7-0 loss to Marquette, as Redettes' ace pitcher Chelsey Wiggins struck out 15 batters, allowing just one hit.
