Knights Rally Past Broncos To Split Doubleheader

BARK RIVER---Payton Thompson hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to help the Norway Knights beat the Bark River-Harris Broncos, 6-4, in the second game of a doubleheader on Monday. The Broncos won the opener, 7-1.

In that opener, Matt Richer pitched all six innings to earn the victory for BR-H. Ryan Arndt and Cole Ray had RBI singles to help break the game open in the fourth inning.

In the nightcap, the Broncos raced to a 4-1 lead as Kadin Mustafa tripled home Arndt and Ray followed with an RBI hit. Ray also turned in a fine defensive play in the first inning as he got a ball hit to the right side of the infield, raced toward first base, and dove to the bag ahead of the runner. Shortstop Nick Javurek had a shoestring catch as well.

Mason Korhonen worked in and out of trouble for the Broncos on the mound, then tired in the fifth inning when he gave up a hit and two walks. He gave way to Brad Vandermissen, who yielded the Thompson three-run shot to right field.

Norway closer Micah Wilson came on for  a six-out save, and he got it, with his biggest pitch being a called third strike on Arndt to end the fifth inning.

Bark River-Harris is back in action on Tuesday in Escanaba. Game time is 5:00. It will be broadcast live on Eagle 107.3 FM and at www.radioresultsnetwork.com.
