DETROIT---Ten Upper Peninsula high school wrestlers finished in the top eight of their weight classes this weekend to reach the podium at the MHSAA Individual state finals at Ford Field.
Two of them finished third, one finished fourth, and seven others finishing further down the list in their weight classes.
Here is how our ten Upper Peninsula wrestlers finished after making it through Friday's matches. All ten of the U.P. Wrestlers placed and made the podium.
Trevor Thorbahn (Gladstone) finished 3rd at 195 pounds. He went 4-1, with his only loss coming to the undefeated state champion from Whitehall.
Max Sundquist (Kingsford) finished 3rd at 175 pounds. He went 4-1, with his only loss coming to to the state champion from Dundee.
Cooper Raab (North Central) finished 4th at 126 pounds.
Sawyer Kuenzer (Sault Ste. Marie) finished 6th at 285 pounds. He wrestled six matches in 24 hours, going 3-3.
Evan Aiskainen (Negaunee) finished 7th at 106 pounds. The freshman finished strong by winning his 7th place match today and went 3-2 in his five Ford Field matches,
Ben Wilson (Gladstone) finished 8th at 215 pounds.
Landon Weber (Manistique) finished 8th at 113 pounds.
Maddy Corrigan (North Central) finished 6th at 115 pounds in the girls division.
Maizy Olson (North Central) finished 8th at 105 pounds in the girls division.
Ginger Majurin (Kingsford) finished 8th at 135 pounds in the girls division.
