Rapid River High School is pleased to announce Katie Poma as the new Head Coach for the Girls' Varsity Basketball team.
Katie is a 2004 graduate of North Central Area Schools. She earned her elementary education degree from Northern Michigan University in 2009 and holds a master's degree in educational technology from Central Michigan University and teaches math at Gladstone Junior High.
Her coaching background includes experience as a varsity assistant coach at both North Central and Gladstone Schools. She also served many years as the Gladstone Freshman Girls' coach and was the assistant coach for Bay College's inaugural women's basketball team.
Katie and her husband, Richard, a 2003 graduate of Rapid River, live in Rapid River with their son Alex, daughter Gwen, and their dog Kenzie. Katie views coaching as a way to "pay it forward," drawing inspiration from all the coaches who have impacted her own journey. Her goals for the team extend beyond the scoreboard; she aims to build upon last season's successes, teach the girls values that will serve them both on and off the court, and hopefully inspire them to pay it forward to the community's youth.
Katie Poma looks forward to leading the Rapid River Girls' Varsity Basketball program.
