MINERS ON TOP: Negaunee Wins First Wrestling District Since 1991

The Negaunee High School wrestling team won a Division Three district championship Wednesday night at Kingsford High School, marking just the second time in school history and the first time since 1991. The Miners eeked out a 42-41 win over the host Flivvers, and after Menominee took down Westwood, 39-30, in the other semifinal, Negaunee faced Menominee in the championship.

The Miners beat the Maroons, 60-24, to advance to the MHSAA Team Regionals on Feb. 18 in Gladstone.

Before that, the individual district tournament will be held this Saturday at Grayling High School.
