So Close: Braves Miss Chance At First Dual Victory
GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School volleyball team came very close to getting its first dual meet victory of the season Monday night. But the Braves came up just short, losing to the Menominee Maroons, 3-2. It was a back-and-forth match all night long, with Menominee winning the first set, 25-23. The Braves came back to tie the match by winning the second game, 25-22. The Maroons won the third game, 25-17. But Gladstone tied the match again in Game #4, 25-22. In the fifth and deciding set, Menominee went home with the win, 15-8. Gladstone senior Lexi Hongisto led the way with 18 kills, 15 digs, and four service aces. Jenna Steinhoff had nine kills and six service aces. Defensively, Lydia Froberg had 18 digs and Kelsey Fournier contributed 12 digs. The Braves are off the rest of the week until they compete in the Escanaba Elks Invitational on Saturday. The first matches start at 9:00 in the morning. Monday's Other U.P.
