ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School junior varsity football team completed a perfect 9-0 season Thursday with a 20-7 win over the Kingsford Flivvers at the Escanaba Athletic Field. The win gave the Eskymos the Great Northern Conference championship (4-0), while Kingsford finished in sec0nd place (7-2 overall, 3-1 GNC). The Escanaba defense forced five Kingsford turnovers. Addam Claes made the extra point kick. The Flivvers responded with a nice drive of their own, capped off on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Sawyer Perpich to Chase Kreski with 10:22 left in the second quarter. But moments later, Logan Carroll got loose for a 55-yard touchdown run in front of an excited Eskymo bench. The extra point kick was blacked, and it was 13-7 at the half. In the third quarter, Wunder scored his second touchdown on a seven-yard run with 8:50 left in the quarter. Claes made the extra point kick to make it 20-7. From there, the Eskymo defense dominated, forcing three Flivver turnovers. As the Eskymos went into the "victory formation" in the final seconds of the game, Escanaba Head Coach Dave Wilson was doused by the big jug of cold water. Wilson and his assistant coaches then gathered the kids in the end zone for a series of victory speeches.
