Escanaba Girls Pick Up First Win Of Season, 42-36
 ESCANABA---The The Escanaba High School girls basketball team earned their first victory of the season Monday night, turning back the Gwinn Model Towners, 42-36, at the Escanaba High School Gym. The Eskymos nearly blew a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, but they held on to get the win for new Head Coach Mike Beveridge.  Escanaba led, 15-10, but Gwinn closed to within 21-20 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Eskymos weere holding a 25-24 lead when it looked like the home team would pull away for an easy win. Escanaba scored 13 straight points, and took a 38-24 lead. But Gwinn scored the final six points of the third quarter, and the Eskymos continued to struggle to put points on the board in the fourth quarter. The Model Towners scored the first six points in the final quarter, making it a 12-0 run, closing to within 38-36. The Model Towners had several chances to tie or take the lead, but could not get on the board again. The Eskymos finally scored a point when Callie Heller scored a free throw with 1:13 left in the game. Haile Waters scored in the final minute to make it 41-36, and Heller had one more free throw to make it 42-36 to seal her team's first victory. Tori Laurin scored 13 points and Tierra Taylor added 12 for Gwinn (1-5). Escanaba (1-5) got 12 points from Waters, and 11 from LaFave.
