Tech Hockey Team Spends Thanksgiving In Alaska
Many of us spent the Thanksgiving holiday doing some traveling. But the Michigan Tech University hockey team's travels take the cake. The Huskies have been gone from home a long time. The Huskies left the Upper Peninsula on the second day of deer season: Wednesday, Nov. 16, bound for Alaska. And on this Thanksgiving holiday, the team is still there. Michigan Tech played a pair of games last Friday and Saturday in Anchorage, Alaska, and picked up a win and a tie against the UAA Seawolves. The home team picked up the extra point with a shootout victory, but the NCAA recognizes that game as a 1-1 tie. But that was only the start of the MTU trip. After finishing their time in Anchorage, the Huskies headed even farther north: to Fairbanks, where they will face the Alaska Nanooks in two more games this Friday night and Saturday night. The Huskies have spent the week studying film and practicing for the Nanook series, and also got in a little "family time" on Thursday, way up north. Michigan Tech is 7-6-3 this season under Coach Mel Pearson, including a 6-2-2 record in the WCHA. After this weekend, the Huskies will have played 13 of their first 18 games on the road. Face-off this Friday and Saturday night are set for 11:05 ET from Fairbanks. The team won't be back in Houghton until sometime on Monday, November 28!
