Braves Top Eskymos To Sweep Season Series 52-24

GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School wrestling team stayed undefeated in dual meets with a 52-24 win over the Escanaba Eskymos Wednesday night.

Escanaba, struggling with a severe shortage of kids, gave away 24 points on four forfeits. The Eskymos who did wrestle Wednesday did a better job than in the 66-12 loss to the Braves earlier this season. But Gladstone kept its roll through the U.P. going.

The match of the night was at 130 pounds, where a pair of freshmen battled for three intense periods. Escanaba's Hunter Larson, fresh off his victory at last Saturday's Northern Michigan Championship, defeated Gladstone's Cole Hansen, 7-2. Hansen won the U.P. Championship at 125 pounds last week in Marquette, while Larson won the U.P. championship at 130 pounds that night.

Escanaba got a victory by decision from junior Simon Chouinard at 112 pounds, 9-2, over Braves freshman Chandler Liebold. The Eskymos also got pins from junior Ean Bevins at 145 pounds and freshman Justin Mathieson at 103 pounds.

Gladstone's winners by pin included Doby Gillis (189 pounds), Jared Demeuse (215 pounds), Vadym Torvinen (119 pounds), and Adam Bruce (135 pounds). Braves sophomore Nick Dawson won a major decision on a 10-0 score over Cassandra Krenek.
