ASHWAUBENON, Wis.---Graham Johnson had a hand in all four goals, scoring twice and getting a pair of assists, as the Escanaba Eskymos turned back the Ashwaubenon Jaguars, 4-1, Tuesday night in Wisconsin. Johnson scored two straight goals after a lengthy delay due to an injured Jaguars player, one of them shorthanded, as Escanaba improved to 4-4-0 on the season. Ashwaubenon, made up with a roster mostly with Pulaski High School students, got the equalizer with 3:12 left in the second period with Charlie Laurent scorong on a 2-on-1. Then, a scary moment, as Carter checked Ashwaubenon's Cade Dorn inside the Escanaba zone. It was a clean check, to be sure, but Dorn fell to the ice after being hit in the chest, and he fell unconscious. More than a half hour later, he was taken off the ice on a stretcher as both teams waited in their respective dressing rooms. Word after the game came that Dorn woud be OK. There were still almost three minutes left in the second period, so that had to be played before moving on to the third period. And in that time, Johnson was able to sneak into the goal crease and put one past goaltender Justin Pintar to make it a 2-1 Eskymo lead after 34 minutes. As the third period began, the Eskymos found themselves in the penalty box. But Johnson took advantage, coming in on a one-man rush up the right wing. A few feet inside the blue line, he ripped one past Pintar for a 3-1 Escanaba lead. Escanaba put the game away with a goal by captain Brett Labre, on another assist from Johnson, who ended up with four points. Escanaba outshot Ashwaubenon, 34-21, with Hayes making 19 saves and Pintar stopping 30 shots. The Jaguars had their record fall to 4-2-1 on the season. |
