Golfers Shivver At Great Northern, Mid Pen Meets
ESCANABA---The skies were sunny, but the weather conditions were still brutal Thursday as the Great Northern Conference Golf Championships were held at the Escanaba Country Club. Marquette emerged with the low score on the boys side while the host Eskymos easily won the girls championship.

The medalist was Marquette's Jordan Frazier, who shot a 75. Gladstone's Adam Scheeneman and Marquette's Brett Specker tied for second with 79's. Escanaba's Nick Aird fired an 81 for fourth place. Escanaba's Dane Casperson, Gladstone's Ben Lasecki, and Menominee's Riley Hegg were tied for fifth place, carding 84's. Escanaba's Dylan Gauthier and Marquette's Brock Smith were tied for seventh with 85's. In the girls meet, Escanaba won with 407 strokes. Marquette was a distant second with a 454, Gladstone was third with 463, Menominee finished fourth (469), and Kingsford was last with 554 strokes. The medalist was Marquette's Avery Rochester, who shot an 87 under windy conditions. Escanaba's Kelsey Motto was second with an 89, and Gladstone's Callie Jensen was third with a 90. They were the only three golfers to break 100 in the meet, with Escanaba's Jalyn Dagenais finishing at the 100 mark to finish in fourth place. CLICK HERE to see all of the Great Northern Conference golf results. MID PENINSULA BOYS: Norway won the meet under sometimes-snowy conditions in West Ishpeming. The Knights had 344 strokes. Negaunee was second (352), Iron Mountain third (356), Westwood fourth (388), and Manistique fifth (389). The medalist was Norway's Austin Hansen...he shot a 79. Negaunee's David Renaldi and Andrew Katona shot 83's to finish tied for second place. MID PENINSULA GIRLS: Iron Mountain won the meet by a wide margin over second place Manistique, 435-529. Westwood finished third (551) and Norway was fourth (556). Iron Mountain's Kateylnn Johnson was the medalist with a 97. Manistique's Hailey Hoholik ended up shooting a 108.
Escanaba's Dylan Gauthier still needs a cart to get around after suffering a severe hockey injury Feb. 7.
