The Rapid River High School softball team overwhelmed the Munising Mustangs in a doubleheader sweep on Thursday, winning both games by 15-0 scores. The first game went four innings, the nightcap went three innings. Natalie Belanger pitched two perfect games, not allowing a baserunner all afternoon. She had 19 strikeouts altogether. Kirsten Goodacre was 6-for-6 at the plate with four runs batted in, including a three-run homer. Cecilia Pilon had four hits in the doubleheader while Jaden Schwartz had a triple and three RBI in the nightcap. The Rockets host Negaunee on Monday.

After 31 years as the Head Coach of the Kingsford Flivvers, Coach Chris Hofer is hanging up his cleats. Hofer posted an overall record of 253-94 with State Championship appearances in 1990, 1992, 1993, and 1996 with a perfect 13-0 State Championship season in 1993. Hofer will be inducted into the U.P. Sports Hall of Fame, class of 2019.

The Escanaba Eskymos ran out of playoff magic Thursday night, falling in the boys basketball regional championship game to the Ludington Orioles, 49-32, in Gaylord. Nate Lange had three three-point baskets and 19 total points to lead the Orioles. The Eskymos did not have a player score in double figures, with Craig Kamin leading with eight points.
