The Escanaba Major Girls (age 11-12) made the most of Kingsford's mistakes to post an 8-1 win in the district finals Friday night in Gladstone. That win came after the Gladstone girls eliminated Iron Mountain North, 15-2, in a losers bracket game.

The District Ten 9-10 boys district tournament began on Friday and there were lots of runs put on the Karl Dickson Field scoreboard. Escanaba outlasted Schaffer, 16-6, before Munising scored eight runs in the fourth inning to top Tri-County, 13-3.

They're coming to teach our kids how to play soccer this summer. Challenger Sports holds summer soccer camps in all 50 states, as well as in Canada. And they will come to four Upper Peninsula cities this year: Munising, Manistique, Iron Mountain, and St. Ignace.

The Keweenaw Storm Under-19 girls hockey team lost Saturday in the quarterfinals of the USA Hockey National Tournament in Irving, Texas. The girls fell to the Alaskan state champions, 1-0, to drop out of the running for a national championship. The Storm lost despite outshooting Alaska, 29-11.
Escanaba nine-year-old Nicole Kamin won the championship at the Elks Hoop Shoot Regional Finals over the weekend in Angola, Ind. She made 19 of her 25 shots, and then made all five shots in a tiebreaker to take first place in the competition.
