BACK ON TRACK: Bink Leads Esky Past Negaunee
NEGAUNEE---Nolan Bink had three goals and added three assists to help the Escanaba Eskymos hockey team beat the Negaunee Miners, 9-2, Friday night, at the Negaunee Ice Arena. Graham Johnson added four assists as the Eskymos bounced back from last weekend's empty trip to the Copper Country. Escanaba outshot Negaunee, 51-17 in the victory. Escanaba led just 2-1 after one period, with Carson Hughes and Owen LaBonte lightinbg the lamp for the Eskymos, and Cash Karvanen "cashing in" for the Miners. The Eskymos scored three times in the second period, with Bink scoring two of them and Cale Carter getting the other goal, making it a 5-2 game after two periods. They put the game away with four goals in the third period, with Hughes getting his second goal, Ben Sands getting on the board, Bink completing his har trick, and Keagan Braun closing the scoring late in the game. The Eskymos kept firing shots and Negaunee goaltender Miles Ketola, but could not get that tenth goal that would have ended the game on the mercy rule. Carter finished with a goal and an assist, and defenseman Alex Schwalbach had two assists. The win helped the Eskymos rebound from last weekend's losses in Hancock and Calumet. The Escanaba record now stands at 5-3-0 on the season, while Negaunee fell to 3-6-0. The Eskymos are on the road again on Tuesday in Manistique against the Emeralds, who lost to Grosse Ile, 7-2, at a tournament in Gaylord on Friday. Tuseday's game at the Little Bear West Arena starts at 7:00 and will be broadcast live on Maverick 106.3 FM. |
