ESCANABA---
Escanaba Eskymos scored three goals in the first period and coasted past the Kingsford Flivvers, 4-1, in high school hockey action Tuesday night at the Wells Sports Complex.

Graham Johnson had two goals and an assist to help the Eskymos to the win. Griffin Johnson and Ben Sands also scored for the Eskymos as they improved to 10-6-0 overall on the season, and 4-3-0 in the Great Lakes Hockey Conference standings.

Escanaba led, 3-0, after the first period, and went up, 4-0, in the second period, after Graham Johnson scored his second goal of the game.

Jaxon Buckley scored Kingsford's only goal in the third period to break the shutout, but Kingsford's record fell to 6-9-0 on the season (1-6-0 conference play).

It was Kingsford's second loss of the season to Escanaba, with the other being a 9-0 setback in Iron Mountain back in late November.

This time, the Eskymos outshot the Flivvers, 31-23, with Eskymo goalie Cully Hayes earning another victory in net with 22 stops. Nate Scullon had 27 saves for Kingsford. Owen LaBonte and Nick Martinson both had a pair of assists for Escanaba.

It was an important conference win for the Eskymos, as they travel to Michigan Tech University to face the first place Painesdale-Jeffers Jets this Friday night.

The Jets improved to 7-1-0 in the Great Lakes Hockey Conference (13-1-0 overall) with a 6-2 win over Calumet Tuesday night.

So, Friday's game will be a battle between the conference's top two teams. It will start at 6:30, and will be broadcast live back to Delta County on FM-93.5, AM-600, and on-line at www.rrnsports.com.
