Hot-Shooting Norse Race Past Delta College, 118-96

SAGINAW, Mich.---The Bay College Norse men's basketball team shot the lights out on Saturday in picking up another road win below the Mackinac Bridge.
Six players scored in double figures and the Norse shot 54.3 percent from the field as part of a 118-96 win over the Delta College Pioneers in University Center, near Saginaw.
Bay made 48 percent of its three-point attempts (14-of-29) as Nic Williams drained five triples and Connor Coduti made four three's off the bench.
The Norse trailed only once in the game, 2-0, after a Brendon Schlink steal and driving layup 35 seconds into the game. Williams hit the first of his five triples to give Bay a 3-2 lead a half-minute later, and Bay never trailed.
The Pioneers tried to keep pace with the Norse offense. A Schlink triple brought Delta to within 19-17 seven minutes into the game. But the Norse turned that around quickly with a 10-2 spurt, capped by a Coduti triple that made it 29-19. Two minutes later, Coduti nailed another three, making it a 36-23 lead. The Norse led, 53-36, at halftime.
The second half saw continued up-and-down basketball, a pace that often happens inside the Pioneer Gym. The game here in 2023 was a frantic 100-90 Norse win, and this time, there was even more offense.
Delta made a game of it early in the second half, closing to within eight points at 61-54 after a Jayden Hackett steal, basket, and foul, with 15:17 left in the game.The Norse responded with a 13-4 spurt, caped off by a Ryan Sweeney slam dunk, restoring the Bay College lead to 74-61.
From there, the Norse kept growing their lead, with another Coduti triple giving Bay a 84-64 lead with just under eleven minutes to play,
All five Norse players scored in double figures. Williams led the way with 21 points, with Sweeney next with 19 points. Sweeney also had six rebounds and four assists in his 30 minutes of play.
Sophomore center Joe Ofori continued to ease his way back into the line-up after a knee injury. He came through with 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 24 minutes of work. Mykel Lindsey had a productive 22 minutes, making six of his seven shots from the floor (2-for-2 from deep) for 14 points. Lindsey also had five rebounds.
Sophomore Josh Williams was the fifth starter with double fugures scoring, making 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. He also dished out five assists.
The Norse also got 36 points from its bench, with Coduti collecting 16 of those points. D'Marco Chelley contributed seven points and four assists.
Delta College saw its record fall to 6-12 overall, 1-4 in the MCCAA.
The Pioneers were led by Schlick's 21 points, while Hackett added 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Evan Booker had a double-double of 19 points and ten assists. Jaylen Carthan also added eleven points for Delta.
Bay College improved to 15-4 on the season, and 4-1 in MCCAA play. The Norse maintain their #18 national ranking, with the new poll scheduled to be released on Tuesday.
The Norse return to action Wednesday with a home game against the Kirtland Community College Firebirds. Kirtland is 4-7 overall, 3-2 in conference play. The game starts at 7:30 and it will be broadcast live on FM-106.3. |
