The Bay College Norse men's basketball team kept pace in the MCCAA standings on Wednesday with an easier-than-expected 114-62 win over the Alpena Community College Lumberjacks. Fourteen Norse players reached the scoring column, and five finished in double figures. The Norse stayed two games behind first place Mid-Michigan, and in a tie with second place Muskegon, with Bay heading to Muskegon for a showdown on Saturday.

The Norse jumped off to a quick 10-2 lead, and stretched that to 20-9 seven minutes into the game. The Lumberjacks closed to within 23-14 on a Chas Stanek triple, but the Norse went on a 23-6 run to essentially put the game away.

Tre Sanigar knocked down a triple, and the Norse got production inside from Kairee Gadson, Joe Ofori, and Ryan Sweeney to take a 55-28 lead at halftime.

Bay outscored Alpena 16-7 to start the second half as Parker Fahning, Nic Williams, and Josh Williams all hit triples. The Norse shared the ball well, with 20 assists against just six turnovers. Bay outrebounded Alpena, 49-25.

Gadson returned to the line-up after a long bout of illnesses and a bad back. He scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Josh Williams had an impressive stat line: 14 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Nic Williams nailed three triples and scored 17 points, and Sanigar added 13 points. Fahning, back from a knee injury, contributed seven points and four rebounds.

Alpena (2-17 overall. 1-9 MCCAA) was led by Stanek's 18 points. Derian Williams added 13.

Bay College, ranked 20th in the country in the latest NJCAA national poll, improved to 19-5 on the season, 8-2 in league play. The Norse kept pace with first place Mid-Michigan and third place Muskegon, both of whom picked up down-to-the wire road wins Wednesday.

The Norse travel to Muskegon to face the Jayhawks on Saturday. Game time is 3:00 and it will be broadcast live on FM-106.3 and at www.baynorse.com.
