Eskymo Tennis Team Closes Season With Victory

IRON RIVER---The Escanaba High School boys tennis team closed its regular season with a 5-2 win over the West Iron County Wykons in Iron River.

Escanaba won three of the four doubles matches, and Tyler Myrick and John Brant picked up wins at #2 singles and #3 singles, respectively.

"We avenged our loss to them from earlier this season and we had some  personal bests today against certain opponents," Escanaba Tennis Coach Jim Hansen said. "West Iron is a good team and will compete for a U.P. Title in Division 2."

Tyler Myrick won his #2 singles match.
Escanaba lost to the Wykons, 5-3, in the season-opener back on April 24th in Escanaba.

Myrick beat Caleb Pellizzer for the second time this season, 6-2, 6-3. And the #1 doubles team of Jake Eastin and David Fix dominated Ryan Rogers and Andrew Peterson, 6-2, 6-0. Fix and Eastin lost to that same Wykon duo back in April, 2-6, 6-2, 0-6.

"I'm proud of how our kids have responded all season," Hansen said. "We finished the season with a winning dual meet record and improved our scores on everyone, win or lose, throughout the entire year. I couldn't be more proud of our guys!"

The Eskymos will compete in the MHSAA Division One U.P. Finals on Wednesday in Marquette.
