Flivvers Roll To G.N.C. Title; Eskymos Miss Playoffs

ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos entered Friday night's game against the Kingsford Flivvers with high hopes. After all, the Eskymos were on a winning streak, with wins over Gladstone and Iron Mountain fresh in their memory.

And the Orange and Black were back in the state playoff chatter.

David Falish needs some soap.
But that chatter died off quickly as the Flivvers scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and rolled to a 49-13 win that guaranteed a Great Northern Conference championship for Coach Chris Hofer's Flivvers.

The Eskymos, meanwhile, ended up with a 4-5 record, and done for the 2012 season.

Kingsford's Reed Larson, who scored six touchdowns against the Eskymos in last year's match-up, was at it again on this night.

In the first half, he scored three times, on runs of seven, two, and 20 yards.

Larson ended up with 185 yards on 20 carries with those three touchdowns.

Kingsford also scored on a fumble recovery by Cole Tengesdhal (who also had an interception in the second half), and on a Caleb Harrington interception return.

Escanaba's David Falish gets a tough first down.

The Flivvers (8-1) led, 42-0, at halftime, and played the second half on a running clock.

The Eskymos scored twice under the mercy-rule scenario: once on a David Falish 69-yard TD run, and later, on a 60-yard touchdown run by Trevan Wendrick.

The Kingsford Flivvers won the GNC championship and went 8-1 this season after Friday's 49-13 victory.
