Despite Snow, It's Meet The 'Spring' Eskymos Night

ESCANABA---Winter still has a firm grip on the Upper Peninsula, but the Escanaba High School had its annual Spring Meet the Eskymos event Thursday night.

It was a chance to meet the players and coaches for the baseball, softball, golf, tennis, and track teams...and for parents to also get information about the upcoming season.

No games, meets, or matches have been held yet this spring thanks to the cold and snowy conditions. Many of the teams are practicing indoors, though, with the boys tennis team taking trips to the Dome in Marinette, Wis., to hit the ball around.

Escanaba Athletic Director Dave Wilson says that the athletic directors from the Great Northern Conference and Mid Peninsula Conference will meet next Wednesday (April 17) to talk about rescheduling some of the contests that have been cancelled.

Also at Thursday night's Meet The Eskymos event, the Michigan Army National Guard gave the 2012 Eskymo football team its annual Sportsmanship Award. The boys are pictured above with their banner. Congratulations!
