GLADSTONE---The Rapid River High School volleyball team lost three matches and tied another on Saturday at "The Rock" Invitational in Gladstone.
The Rockets played against four schools that are much bigger than the Rapid River School, and according to Coach Lisa Kanyuh, got a learning experience.
Rapid River lost to Gladstone, 2-0 (11-25, 11-25), and then fell to Ishpeming, 2-0 (13-25, 18-25). The Rockets then faced Hancock, and lost, 2-0 (13-25, 15-25). But in their final match against Westwood, the Rockets rebounded to win the final set, 25-23, after losing the opener, 25-20. Rapid River finished pool play 0-3-1 in matches; 1-7 in sets.
"We got to see a lot of the taller teams, the faster offenses and defenses that they run out here," Kanyuh said. "When you play against good teams, it brings your level up."
