Gladstone Opens Season With Win Over Escanaba

ESCANABA---The Gladstone High School boys basketball team opened its season Friday night with a 54-40 win over the arch-rival Escanaba Eskymos in Escanaba.

Andy Olesak led all scorers with 17 points, while Justin Jurek added ten.

Tyler Wells and Hunter Garling both scored nine for the Braves. Escanaba was led by Sam Molnar's nine points and Jake Rodman scored seven.

Gladstone led the entire way. The Braves were in front, 15-8, after one quarter, and 32-21 at halftime. Gladstone led, 41-28, after three. Escanaba never could make that big run.

Escanaba won the JV game, 58-46, while Gladstone took the freshman contest, 55-34.

Escanaba travels to Marquette Monday night, while Gladstone hosts Mid Peninsula, also on Monday. The Braves-Wolverines game will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com, starting at 7:05.
