ALPENA---The Escanaba High School girls softball team lost a pair of tight games against a tough opponent Friday in Lower Michigan. The Eskymos had the lead in both games against the Alpena Wildcats, but lost both at the end, 5-4 and 6-5.
Alpena now has 20 wins (20-6) on the season, while Escanaba fell to 11-6.
In the first game, J.J. Laviolette had a base hit in the second inning to bring home Emily LaFave and Anna Burch, giving Escanaba a 3-0 lead. But Alpena eventually took the lead as the Eskymos botched a run-down play, allowing the go-ahead run to score.
