ESCANABA---For a while there, the Bark River-Harris Broncos were enjoying the underdog role as they faced the Escanaba Eskymos Monday night in Escanaba.
The three-pointers were raining down, as Logan Heim hit two of them and Ryan Arndt hit another. The Broncos tied the game at 17-17, forcing Tracy Hudson into a time out.
The Eskymos went into high gear from there, outscoring the Broncos, 20-10, to end the first half. And then Bark River-Harris endured a brutal third quarter, getting outscored 23-3, and Escanaba pulled away for a 71-47 win in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Tyler Willette scored 17 points and Ryan Robinette added 14 for the Eskymos.
Jared Nash chipped in ten points as Escanaba improved to 6-4 on the season.
Bark River-Harris got ten points from Ben Schultz, while Heim, Arndt, and Nick Lippens added eight points apiece. The Broncos hit eight triples in a losing effort.
Escanaba (6-4) travels to undefeated Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday afternoon. The Sault High Blue Devils whipped Cheboygan, 70-43, Monday night.
The Broncos fell to 8-2 on the season, with losses to Iron Mountain and Escanaba. It gets no easier for BR-H on Friday when the boys travel to face two-time defending state champion North Central. The Jets will likely be trying to set a state record for consecutive victories in that game. It will be broadcast live on WUPF-FM (107.3).
