ESCANABA---For most of the game, it looked like the Marquette Redmen would pull away to a comfortable victory over the Escanaba Eskymos in a Great Northern Conference match-up at the Escanaba High School Gym.
But the Eskymos kept battling and took the first place Redmen into overtime before Marquette emerged with a 67-57 victory.
Escanaba scored the final eight points of regulation to stun the Redmen and force the extra session. Senior C.J. Barron scored six of those points: the first three on a 21-footer and the other three on a basket and foul shot. Tyler Willette's two free throws tied it up.
But just as they did during a double-overtime victory in Gladstone, the Redmen buckled down and regained control of the game in the overtime period. Marquette outscored Escanaba, 13-3, in the extra four minutes, with Joe Ostrowsky nailing a huge triple.
Early in the game, Ostrowsky sank three consecutive three-pointers to help the Redmen take a 20-10 lead after the first quarter. Marquette still led, 31-24, at the half, and 45-37 at the end of three quarters.
But the Redmen couldn't put the Eskymos away.
Willette led the Eskymos with 26 points, while Barron and Jared Nash each scored ten.
Marquette got 20 points from Ostrowsky, including six three-pointers. Treylon McFerrin added 17 points and Alex DuVall chipped in with eleven for the Redmen.
Marquette improved to 13-1 on the season, while Escanaba's record fell to 8-7.
