ESCANABA---The Escanaba community gathered Monday night to celebrate the Eskymo softball team's state championship. The girls won the Division Two state title on Saturday at Michigan State University, 5-0, over the South Haven Rams.
It was the first state title in a unified sport for Escanaba since the football team won the championship in 1981. This year's Eskymo team finished with a record of 31-3, including seven straight wins in the playoffs by a combined score of 53-2.
