Braves Win Wrestling Regional After Penalty Point

GLADSTONE---The Gladstone Braves are the Division Three regional wrestling champions after an unusual ending in Wednesday night's championship match.

The Kingsley Stags appeared to have come from behind for a 39-38 win on the team scoreboard after winning the final 215-pound match. But the Stags wrestler threw off his head gear in celebration, and was given a penalty point, which made the score go back to 38-38.

Gladstone won the tiebreaker and took the match to advance to the state finals in Kalamazoo.

Earlier, in the semifinals, the Braves beat Kingsford, 57-21, and the Stags beat West Branch Ogemaw Heights, 53-24.
