PETOSKEY---The Bay College Norse men's basketball team played strong defense Wednesday night, but struggled on offense, before pulling away late in the game to beat the North Central Michigan College Timberwolves, 64-40, in Petoskey. The win broke Bay's two-game losing streak and kept the team undefeated on the road this season.
The Norse had more trouble than expected against the Timberwolves, who have not won a game on the court this season (one win by forfeit). Bay led just 24-19 at halftime and 38-33 midway through the second half. But the defense stayed strong, and the offense finally woke up, outscoring NCMC, 28-6, down the stretch.
Bay College improved to 12-4 overall, 1-1 in MCCAA North Conference play.
Bay shot the ball well overall, hitting 46.6% of their shots. The Timberwolves saw their shooting percentage dip below 30% in the second half and were outrebounded 42-31 in the game.
Ziad Abouali led the Norse with ten points, four rebounds, and three assists. Kyle Hustrulid also had ten points. Savion Johnson (SO, Milwaukee, WI) grabbed eight rebounds and four assists.
NCMC's Ryan Mateleski led all scorers with 11 points. Logan McCauley had eight points.
The Norse are on the road Saturday for a conference matchup with Muskegon Community College. That game is scheduled to tip at 3 pm.
