GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School girls basketball team jumped to a 12-0 lead and rolled past the rival Escanaba Eskymos, 70-25, Monday night in Gladstone.

The result was another Braves conference win against their over-matched Delta County rivals, but there was more than just a game Monday night.
It was the Pink Game for breast cancer awareness, and there were raffles, baked goods for sale, and a “Miracle Minute” collection in the stands after the first quarter. All to raise money to help local resident Mary Johnson, who is fighting cancer.
In the end, about $5,400 was raised, which Coach Andy Cretens says is the most that's been raised at this annual event to help someone who is battling that horrible disease.
As for the game, the Braves coasted after building a 20-point lead in the second quarter, and the game eventually ended on the running clock because of the mercy rule.
Senior Lillie Johnson led the Braves with 36 points as she continued adding to the Gladstone records that she has already set.
Gladstone improved to 14-3 on the season. Escanaba's record fell to 2-14.
The Braves host Gwinn this Thursday night. Escanaba travels to Ironwood on Wednesday, and then hosts Ishpeming Thursday night.
