ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos baseball team scored eleven runs in the fourth inning to break a 0-0 tie Wednesday evening, and beat the Kingsford Flivvers, 11-0, in a mercy-shortened game at Al Ness Field.
Lenny Peacock gave up six base hits, but his defense was strong behind him, as he picked up his first pitching win of the season after losses to two tough Wisconsin teams. Peacock, a Western Michigan University recruit, struck out seven batters and issued zero walks. On the other side, though, Kingsford's picthers had a rough fourth inning
After holding the Eskymos to a 0-0 draw for three innings, the wheels fell off for the young Flivvers team in the bottom of the fourth inning. Their pitchers issued seven walks and hit three batters as the Eskymos sent 17 men to the plate.
Escanaba scored eleven runs on only three base hits, with Ashton Rymkos starting things off with a double and scoring on a single by Peacock. McKaiden Hughes added a sacrifice fly to bring home another run among the walk-a-thon that followed.
Kingsford (0-8) actually hit well against Peacock early, loading the bases in the second inning before a fielder's choice ground out and a fly out stranded the bases loaded. The next inning, the Flivvers got two more men on base, but could not score.
Jack Spreen had two singles and Jacob Donier had two doubles for Kingsford.
Rymkos had a single and a double to lead the offense for Escanaba (3-3).
Escanaba will host the Negaunee Miners in a doubleheader Thursday afternoon at 4:00, while Kingsford returns to action on Friday against Oconto Falls in Wisconsin.
