BARK RIVER---The Bark River-Harris Broncos football team jumped to a 22-0 lead and cruised past the Westwood Patriots, 40-18, Friday night in Bark River.

Quarterback Dane Schmitt had three touchdown passes, and Gabe Spear had a monster game on both offense and defense, as the Broncos look to build a strong season and a repeat of last year's MHSAA Division Eight state semifinal appearance.

The Broncos wasted no time Friday night, scoring on a Gionni McDonough 63-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. After the two-point run, the Broncos had am 8-0 lead just 16 seconds into the game. The Patriots did a decent job of contolling the BR-H running game from there, buit the Bronco passing game took over.

Schmitt hooked up with Johnson for a short pass that turned into a 39-yard touchdown in front of the Broncos bench. The two-point play make it 16-0 BR-H, still in the first quarter.

Westwood cut the gap to 16-6 on a fourth down touchdown pass from Cohen Ostola to Logan Thomas, but moments later, the Broncos replied. Schmitt scrambled and threw a strike to Dylan Bruce, who caight it at the one-yard line and backed his way into the end zone to make the score 22-6.

Westwood, rebuilding after the departure of All-U.P. quarterback Ethan Marta and playing under a new gead coach, was further restricted when Ostola suffered a leg injury late in the second quarter.
