Reece Castor set Gladstone High School's all-time career boys basketball scoring record Thursday night by scoring 34 points to lead the Braves to a 71-28 win over the Manistique Emeralds in Gladstone. Castor, who has signed to play at Northern Michigan University, broke the old record set by another former NMU Wildcat, Doug Ingalls. The Escanaba Eskymos beat the Kingsford Flivvers, 6-3, in high school hockey action Thursday night in Wells. Christer Carne scored a hat trick and Nick Kolich added a three-assist playmaker for the Eskymos. Grant Wickham had a goal and two assists, while Ethan Silverstone and Chris Sliva also scored. Gladstone High School senior Reece Castor signed his National Letter of Intent Friday to attend school and play basketball at Northern Michigan University. The Carney-Nadeau High School volleyball team lost to top-ranked Leland-3-0, in the state semifinals Friday in Battle Creek. The scores were 25-21, 25-14, 25-16. Leland’s Ella Siddall had 34 assists and five aces, while senior Hanna Elwell had 17 kills for Leland (47-10-1). Carney, playing in its first volleyball semifinal ever, got a big defensive performance from junior Alanis Harris, who had 22 digs. The No. 9 Wolves finished 26-4-1.
