NJCAA Shifts Sports; Norse Basketball In January

The National Junior College Athletic Association on Monday approved a plan that will shift fall sports like football to the spring, and delay the start of winter sports seasons until January.   • Former NMU Basketball Star Playing In Europe

    Former Northern Michigan University men's basketball standout, Naba Echols, has signed a professional contract with KK Alkar in Sinj, Croatia. Echols graduated from NMU in December 2019 after finishing his career as a Wildcat fifth in program history with 1,760 points, averaging 17.3 points per game. He added 371 assists, 3.6 per game. 

  • USHL's Madison Capitols Cancel Hockey Season
    Restrictions in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic are forcing the Madison Capitols off the ice this season. The U.S. Hockey League says today it could not reach an agreement with Dane County that would allow the team to play at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. Despite their disappointment, Madison Capitols ownership says they are preparing for the return in the 2021-22 season.
  • WIAC Suspending All Sports Until At Least January
    The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is suspending all winter sports competition through the end of the year. The suspensions come as officials assess the COVID-19 situation. The decision affects men's and women's basketball, ice hockey, indoor track and field, swimming and diving, wrestling and women's gymnastics. The WIAC says it will continue to monitor coronavirus developments as it determines the best course of action for the spring semester.
