U.P. SPORTS BRIEFS
  • NMU Women's Soccer Scores; Falls At #2 Grand Valley
The Northern Michigan University Women's Soccer team took on top-seeded  Grand Valley State University in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Quarterfinals. In the 84th minute, the Wildcats did something no other team in the GLIAC has been able to do this season as they scored a goal against Grand Valley. Shortly after a Laker goal, senior Jamie Montgomery found sophomore Rachael Erste who was able to get the ball into the net. Grand Valley, the No. 2-ranked team in the country, won the game, however, 5-1.
  • Michigan Tech Football Falls At Wayne State

The Michigan Tech football team fell at Wayne State 35-14 in the final Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road game of the year Saturday afternoon. The Huskies and Warriors were deadlocked at 7-7 through one quarter, but Wayne State went up 28-7 at halftime and stopped a late charge by the Huskies in the fourth quarter. "I thought we stopped the run really well, especially in the second half, and offensively we were able to move the ball," Michigan Tech Head Coach Steve Olson said. "I don't think the final score indicates how close the two teams are and it's unfortunate we weren't able to come away with a win.
