STAYING HOME: Escanaba Grads Sign With Norse

Three Escanaba High School graduates have signed National Letters of Intent to play softball at Bay College. Emily Bruntjens, Emily LaFave, and Aubree Saunders all signed to play next year on the first-ever Norse softball team. They join current Escanaba senior Maddy Griffin as players for Norse Coach Heidi Charon, who is an Escanaba grad.
Bay College Cross Country Adds Six More Runners

Gogebic Women Win; Advance To Nationals, 94-82
The Gogebic Community College women's basketball team advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament on Saturday with a 94-82 win over Southeast Community College out of Beatrice, Neb. Lori Wardynski led the Lady Samsons with 33 points and 12 rebounds. Bailey Froberg (pictured) added 26 points. The national tournament starts March 20 in Harrison, Ark.

  • Negaunee Cruises To MPC Tennis Championship
    The Negaunee Miners won seven of the eight flights on Wednesday and took the Mid Peninsula Conference Tennis Championships. Westwood won the #4 doubles championship to spoil Negaunee's clean sweep effort. The Miners had 46 points and the Patriots were second with 33. Gladstone and Ishpeming finished tied for third with 12 points each.
  • Gladstone Golfers Win Marquette Invitational
    The Gladstone High School boys golf team won the Marquette Invitational on Wednesday as junior Rudy Peterson was the medalist after firing a 73. Escanaba's Trevor Denome and Negaunee's Jordan Mason tied for second with 77. Gladstone had 313 strokes. Escanaba was second with 327 and Marquette took third with 331. In the girls meet, Menominee was first with 401, Escanaba second (460) and Marquette was third (472). Escanaba's Paxton Johnson was the medalist with an 82.
