Bolo Four-Hitter Leads Kingsford Past Escanaba 4-1
ESCANABA---C.J. Bolo pitched a four-hitter Tuesday night, helping the Kingsford Blues beat the Escanaba Cubs, 4-1, at Al Ness Field. The Blues scored four unearned runs in the first three innings, then held on. The only run against Bolo came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Drew Serrer doubled home Logan Lamb. But with Serrer at second and Johnny Schlenvogt at third, Bolo struck out Braden Olsen on a 2-2 pitch to end the scoring threat. Finally, in the top of the seventh inning, with Kingsford at the plate, the rains arrived, and the stadium lights went out. The game was called official at that point. Cody Frappier had two hits for Escanaba. Jake Anderson had a hit and a sacrifice bunt. Besides his RBI double, Serrer threw out a baserunner at the plate, with Schlenvogt putting on the tag. Right fielder Tyler Willette also threw out a Kingsford runner at third base, with Lamb putting on the tag. But early errors hurt the Cubs' chances. Noah Lancour threw well for Escanaba, scattering seven base hits in six-plus innings. The Cubs have dropped five straight games, after winning their first two games in the Sault Ste. Marie tournament last Friday. Escanaba plays at Ishpeming Wednesday night. Click the thumbnails in the ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS box above to see photos and videos from Tuesday night's game. |
