Escanaba Tennis Team Rolls Past Kingsford Flivvers
ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School tennis team posted a 6-2 win over the Kingsford Flivvers on Thursday in Escanaba. The Eskymos won three singles and three doubles matches, with all but one of those flights coming in straight sets. Escanaba's #1 singles player, senior Taylor Gauthier, bounced back from her loss the day before in Marquette by beating Stephanie List, 6-1, 6-1. At #2 singles, Escanaba's Megan Marenger (pictured above) defeated Ema Whittkopf, 6-1, 6-2; and at third singles, Jasmine Clark had a quick win over Kira Peters, 6-1, 6-1. The Flivvers got the win when Petschar took the third set, 7-5. Meanwhile, in Ludington Park, Kingsford also won at #1 doubles, as Carly Schneider and Kenzie Schuamlien lost the first set to Abby Knudsen and Heather Bergstrom, 6-1. But the Flivver duo won the final two sets, 6-3 and 7-5, to take the match, preventing an Eskymo doubles sweep. The other three doubles flights went to the Eskymos, all in straight sets. Escanaba's Claire McInerney and Alison Sommers won, 6-1 and 7-5, at second doubles; Rene Perrault and Mykenzie Monkevich won, 6-4 and 7-5 at third doubles; and Jessica Koish and Lauren Dykema won, 6-1 and 7-5, at fourth doubles.
