Upper Peninsula Track Season Ends With Big Show

KINGSFORD---Delta County's track teams were more than competitive at the MHSAA Upper Peninsula Finals on Saturday in Kingfsord.

Rapid River's boys took second in Division Three, while Gladstone was third and Escanaba fourth in the boys Division One races.

On the girls side, Mid Peninsula was fourth and Bark River-Harris fifth in D-3. 

In Division One, Marquette's boys won with 110 points, followed by Houghton with 86.

The Braves took third with 76 points and the Eskymos were fourth with 62.

In the long jump, Gladstone's Darin Johnson finished second and Escanaba's Kyle Gendron took third behind champion Raffy Millado of Marquette.

Escanaba's Dayton Miron won the pole vault, while Eskymos Garrett McMillian was second and Gendron third behind Millado in the high jump.

Gladstone's Adam Bruce took second in the mile run, behind Negaunee's Colton Yesney, and the Braves got a big day from Calvin Thibault as he won both the 110 and 300 hurdles, and he took second in the 200 dash.

Escanaba's 400-meter relay team of Logan Carroll, Scout Wunder, Ryan Randall, and Tyler Cook took first place in 45.33 seconds (pictured).

Wunder was also second in the 100 meter dash.

In Division Three, Bessemer won the boys title going away with 151 points.

The Rockets were second with 84, and Pickford was third with 45 points.

Rapid River's Logan Hardwick won the discus (144-10) with Rocket teammate Gunner Larson second. Hardwick was also third place in the shot put.

In the long jump, Mid Peninsula's Brandon Nummilien was second on the boys side and Bark River-Harris's Jaelin Lockwood was second in the girls event.

Mid Pen's Terry Brower won the boys' high jump.

BR-H senior Hailee Demers won the 300 hurdles in 50.16 seconds. Demers was also part of the 400-meter relay team that won the U.P. title (with Makenna Lockwood, Jaelin Lockwood, and Ashleigh White) in a time of 53.63 seconds.

And it was a family affair in the 400-meter run, with Lucas Sundling winning the U.P. title in 53.06 seconds, and his little brother Tyler second in 54 seconds-flat.
