Gladstone Sweeps Negaunee; Takes Share Of MPC

GLADSTONE---The Gladstone Braves defeated the Negaunee Miners, 3-0, on Volley for a Cure Night in Gladstone on Tuesday. The scores were 25-12, 25-20, and 25-21.

The money raised from the match will benefit "Grandma Peaches", the grandmother of Braves sophomore Megan Crow, who is battling cancer.

With the win, Gladstone clinched a share of the Mid Peninsula Conference championship, sharing the title with Iron Mountain and Manistique.

It was the Braves' final regular season match.

"It's a really good feeling to have been with these girls for this season and to see them develop and become the team that they were tonight," Braves first-year volleyball coach Bill Lawrence said. "It's really been an honor for me to be a part of it."

And what about winning the conference championship?

"Just a winning season would be a good thing, but to have that on top of it, is a really great thing," Lawrence said. "So, I'm just proud of these girls."

Iron Mountain earned its share of the MPC with a 3-0 win over Westwood on Tuesday.

Gladstone opens the MHSAA Districts at home next Tuesday against Kingsford.
