BARK RIVER---The Bark River-Harris wrestling team won twice at a quad meet on their home mat Thursday, beating Munising, 60-24, and Kingsford 59-24. Kingsford defeated Gwinn 39-0 and Munising defeated Gwinn 42-6 in the other matches. Drew Allgeyer, a North Central High School student on the BR-H co-op team, won his 100th career match with a 19-4 tech fall win over Kingsford's Jason Peterson. Allgeyer had pcked up a forfeit win over Munising in what would have been his first 189-pound match of the night. "When a wrestler gets 100 career wins in their high school career, that's a great feat," BR-H Coach Joe Racicot said. "Tyler (hs son) did it last year, which was great for me as a parent and as a coach, and now two of my NCA guys have done it already (Dillon Raab reached 100 last week). It's going to be intersting to see if they can get to 150 for their careers next year. They definitely have the capablities to do it." And there will be soon a third BR-H wrestler to reach the 100 win mark, as Avry Corrigan is on 98 wins after bating Munising's Korbyn Snith on a pin at the 1:25 mark. He also picked up a forfeit win over Kingsford, so he could get to the 100 mark this Saturday. Allgeyer bounced back after two bitter losses to Gladstone's Hunter Potier, once when he had a 13-2 lead and got pinned in Gladstone, and then, again, in a U.P. Finals championship match last weekend in Marquette. "Those losses helpd me," Allgeyer said. "My first one, that one, hurt bad. The last one hurt even worse. I'm going to try to catch him again at the conference." BR-H's 152-pounder, Noah Gagne, turned in two more dominating performances. He pinned Kingsford's Eizayah Reed on a pin in 53 seconds, and he trailed Munising's Connor Masters before turning the tables and pinning him in 1:31. Munising got two wins from Cole Whitehead at 125 pounds, as he beat BR-H's Taylor Anderson in 1:00 and a forfeit win over Gwinn. Munising's U.P. champion, Reagan Bowerman, pinned Bark River's Ethan Messersmith in 51 seconds and earned a forfeit over Gwinn. Gwnn had only four wrestlers, but one of them, Thomas Jenkins, battled hard into an overtime period against Kingsford's Wyatt Westman. Westman won on a takedown in sudden death overtime, 6-4. Gwinn 215-pounder Connor Dalton battled Munising's Robert Johns, before losing on a 11-9 decision. Dalton also battled against Kingsford's Josh Peterson, before eventually being pinned at the 4:27 mark of the match. "Small team, big heart," Gwinn Coach Dennis Stachewicz saiid. "They all wrestled well and we got better tonight. I'm really happy with where they're at now. They're starting to peak at the right time." |
