The Escanaba High School competitive cheerleading team took first place at the U.P. Cheer Jamboree Wednesday night in Escanaba. The Eskymos had 740.30 points. Gladstone was second with 702.48 and Manistique finished third with 692.66.

The Escanaba High School hockey team made the long trip to Chelsea Wednesday to prepare for play in the Michigan Public High School Hockey Showcase. The Eskymos practiced in Gaylord and then finished the eight-hour trip. Escanaba plays Thursday afternoon at 2:00 against Farmington. The Marquette High School girls basketball team improved to 15-0 on the season Saturday, but it wasn't easy. The Escanaba Eskymos battled hard, but fell to the Redettes, 73-64. Hunter Viitala led the Redettes with 23 points, including five three-point baskets. The Eskymos got 26 points from Michelle LaFave. Escanaba is now 7-8.

Tyler Jandron became the Negaunee High School basketbll program's All-time leading scorer Wednesday as the Miners beat the Ishpeming Hematites, 57-55. Jandron scored 26 points and passed his brother Tony's previous record of 1,011 points. Eric Lori's three-pointer late in the game gave Negaunee the winning margin. Alex Brionnes led Ishpeming with 28 points.
