HARRIS----The Bark River-Harris Broncos won their first two sets from the Big Bay deNoc Black Bears Monday, then held off a strong rally to post a 3-1 Central U.P. Conference volleyball victory. The scores were 25-21, 25-6, 18-25, and 26-24.
After winning the first set, the Broncos dominated the second set. They started the set with five straight service aces by junior Emily Johnson.
The Broncos eventually took a 12-1 lead and led 24-4 before winning, 25-6.
But the Black Bears did not give up.
Big Bay won the third set, 25-18, and then took the lead in the fourth set at 19-14 and 23-19. The Black Bears had set point at 24-22, but a service error kept the Broncos alive.
Bark River-Harris ended up scoring seven of the last eight points to win, 26-24.
The Broncos are off until next Monday, when they host Superior Central. Bark River-Harris then travel to North Dickinson on Oct. 17, at Mid Peninsula on Oct. 21, and at Carney-Nadeau for a triangular on Oct. 22.
