TAMPA, Fla.---Former Escanaba High School and Northern Michigan University standout Jace Daniels has been re-signed by the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He was cut from the Bucs' practice squad in September because the team had injuries at other positions, and they needed his roster spot. Daniels had returned to Marquette and was working there before getting the call on Tuesday to return to Tampa.
Daniels played in all four of Tampa Bay's pre-season games back in August.
He was cut when the team set its 53-man regular season roster, but was signed to the practice squad the next day. Then he was cut a second time three days later, but was promised that had would "be called back soon".
That call came on Tuesday.
"I was roofing a house when they called," Daniels said. That was at 5:30 Tuesday afternoon, and then it was an overnight adventure to find a flight to Tampa.
Daniels finally found one that was leaving early Wednesday morning, and he was planning on attending practice on Wednesday after he arrives in Florida.
