ESCANABA---It's still cold and wet across the Upper Peninsula, but the spring high school sports seasons are slowly getting under way. In Escanaba, the annual "Meet the Eskymos" event was held on Friday, as the players and coaches from the baseball, softball, tennis, golf, and track teams were all on hand for pizza and fellowship.
"It was started a number of years ago to just get the ball rolling and get some community involvement," Escanaba Athletic Director Nick Nolde said about the event. "Introduce our athletes and teams to the communityand hopefully that will spark some interest and we'll get some more fans at our games."
The kids and their coaches were treated to pizza and cookies by the Escanaba Fan Club, and then they went into the auditorium to be introduced, team-by-team. With all of the Eskymo teams playing full schedules, this is the only time that they're in the same place.
